Retro gold earrings each with a pain de sucre amethyst cabochon dotted around with eight single brilliant cut diamonds, suspended by a smaller openwork illusion set pain de sucre amethyst cabochon framed by four single brilliant cut diamonds.

Country of origin: Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of Belgian origin.

Style: Retro - The style now called "Retro Art" is a genre which was developed in the 1940s and 1950s in response to a need for bold, eye-catching graphics and shapes that were easy to reproduce.

Extra information: Pain de sucre cabochon - Pain de sucre is French for "sugarloaf". A type of cabochon that, in contrary to the normal cabochon, is polished in a way that the top of the stone is really sticking out in a (smooth) point. The naming of such polishing refers to a sugarloaf in its traditional form. Namely a tall gently-tapering cylinder with a conical top, in which refined sugar was exported from the Caribbean and eastern Brazil from the 17th to 19th centuries.
