Amazing gold filigree Victorian bracelet from the Austro-Hungarian Empire

A touch of history ...

True craftmanship this bangle! To work in filigree is already hard as it is but to build a 3-dimensional object from it demands even greater skills of the goldsmith. One side of this bracelet is in perfect condition, the other side is not (see the extra information 1) but that reflects itself in the low price for this bangle.

Antique jewelry object group: fixed bracelets/bangles
Country of origin: Austria-Hungaria
Style: Victorian - (styles overview)
Style specifics:
Period: ca. 1870 (events and facts in 1870)
Source of inspiration:
Theme:
Material: 14K yellow gold - (precious metals)
Technique: This jewel features a filigree decoration, which is in fact thin golden wire twisted into refined motifs, in this case elegant little balls. You can also notice the use of granulation on this piece. Granulation is a technique where the goldsmith uses very small balls (granules) of metal, which are not soldered to the piece but welded. Both techniques demand very high skills and precision from the maker.
Extra information 1: On one side of the bracelet there are four initials A, P, J or I and G or Q. It is this side of the bracelet that has some old repairs that aren't done in the most elegant way. Also on this side of the bracelet a few pieces of the filigree are missing. We decided however to leave the bracelet in this condition as these shortcomings are not too obvious when wearing.
Extra information 2: By combining the Royal House of Austria with that of Hungary the dual monarchy Austria-Hungary was created (also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867 to 1918), which itself was dissolved at the end of World War I and broken into separate new states.
Hallmarks: hallmarks as used in the Austro-Hungarian Empire between 1866 and 1922 - (general hallmarks info)
Condition: acceptable condition - (our condition scale)
Dimensions: Circumference 18.00 cm (7.09 inch)
Weight: 14.50 gram (9.32 dwt)

ReferenceNº: 08328-4189
