Circa 1900 Art Nouveau Toi et Moi ring with diamond, ruby, antique sparkle

An Art Nouveau toi et moi ring, made around 1900, in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum, its twin terminals curling in a supple botanical sweep, a signature flourish of the Art Nouveau style. An old European cut diamond meets an oval ruby, each in light claw settings, while the crossing shoulders are traced with antique cut diamonds for a soft, candlelit glint. The French name 'Toi et Moi' says it plainly: you and me, held together in one ring, a small vow you can wear, and a story that has every chance of becoming an heirloom.

Style
Art Nouveau is an international design movement that flourished around 1890 to 1905. In jewellery it is recognised by flowing lines and nature inspired ornament.

The style circulated across Europe under different names, including Jugendstil in German speaking regions and Stile Liberty in Italy. In the Netherlands it was sometimes nicknamed “Slaolie stijl”, meaning “salad oil style”.

Art Nouveau reacted against nineteenth century historicist design and favoured organic motifs, especially flowers and leaves, drawn into stylised flowing curves. In jewellery it helped move taste away from revival styles and towards a more modern visual language.

Eighteen small accent diamonds, including old mine cuts, rose cut diamonds and senailles.

A senaille is a simplified rose cut used for very small accent stones, often with only a few polished facets. Individual weights are not recorded for stones of this size, which is standard practice when they are used mainly for sparkle and definition.

- When we provide weights, colour grades, and clarity of diamonds, these are approximate unless otherwise stated, as we do not remove diamonds from their settings to preserve the integrity of the piece.

- All diamonds, regardless of their size or shape, in our vintage and antique jewellery are verified as 100% natural by the IJGC laboratory.

- We do not sell lab-grown (synthetic) diamonds.
