The process of smoothing the enamel used in making work with cloisonné, champlevé,plique à jour or basse taille decoration, done by means of rubbing with a stone (after initialsmoothing by filling) until a uniformly even surface has been achieved. Sometimes a piece with transparent enamel must be refired to provide a glazedsurface, and finally the piece is buffed.
