Such stoneswere once miscalled 'scientific alexandrite' owing to their having the property of changing colour in the manner of alexandrite. The synthetic corundum has been sold under the trade-nameof 'Syntholite'. An experimental synthetic chrysoberyl has been produced as a true synthetic alexandrite.
