Wire Ring

A type of finger ring made as a hoop of wire. The earliest rings of precious metals were so made of gold in the third millenium BC. In England Saxon rings ofthe 9th/11th centuries were made of gold wire, some having the wire twisted, other plaited, in each case flattened at the back of the hoop.
