Art Deco platinum ring with a 1.04-carat oval diamond, circa 1930

Art Deco platinum ring with a 1.04-carat oval diamond, circa 1930

The central oval diamond, with its pleasing soft yellow colour, brings gentle warmth to a stepped platinum frame. Dating from around 1930, this Art Deco ring balances architectural precision with the delicacy of fine millegrain edges. Its old-cut diamonds give the composition a distinctive character, while their traditional association with enduring love lends a personal meaning to a ring firmly rooted in its own time.

Diamonds: One central oval-shaped natural diamond, described by Adin as an old mine cut. AGR report 1810034974 AN uses the designation "oval modified brilliant" and records a weight of 1.04 carats, colour P, clarity VS2 and strong fluorescence. The central diamond has a pleasing soft yellow colour. Fluorescence describes the diamond's response to ultraviolet light. The central diamond is held in a claw setting.

Twenty old brilliant-cut diamonds, grain-set in the surrounding panels, with an estimated total weight of 0.90 carats, colour G–J and clarity VS–SI.

For the twenty smaller diamonds, diamond weights, colour and clarity are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed for grading or weighing. The central diamond's weight, colour and clarity are those recorded in the AGR report.
