Made in France around 1890, these Late Victorian earrings gather vivid rubies into small floral clusters, their pinkish red tones lifted by tiny diamond accents. The warm 18K red gold setting, seen from the back in its neat openwork construction, gives the pair both colour and intimacy. Petite yet full of character, they carry the romantic lightness so often found in jewels from the later Victorian years.

Late Victorian jewellery belongs to the decorative arts of the Victorian era, a period known for its eclectic revival and reinterpretation of historical styles, as well as for the introduction of cross-cultural influences from the Middle East and Asia in furniture, fittings and interior decoration.
Victorian design is often associated with a generous use of ornament. Yet the later decades of the period also saw the beginnings of the Arts and Crafts movement, the Aesthetic movement, the Anglo-Japanese style and Art Nouveau.
