Architectural Platinum Ring with Turquoise and Diamonds, circa 1950
This 1950s Art Deco style ring centres on an oval matrix turquoise, its vivid blue-green surface traced with natural dark veining. A delicate border of diamonds follows the stone’s outline, while further diamonds are set into the raised basket edge and shoulders, giving the platinum mount lightness and sparkle from every angle. 1950s Art Deco style - This jewel was probably made in the 1950s and combines the strong geometric influence of Art Deco with the softer, more sculptural character of postwar jewellery. As the Art Deco period had ended only about twenty years earlier,
its forms remained an important source of inspiration. This can make some 1950s jewels difficult to distinguish from true Art Deco pieces, particularly when executed in platinum or with a pronounced geometric design. It should therefore be described as
Art Deco style rather than as a jewel from the Art Deco period.
