The mother of all Evergreens

18th Century Diamond Bracelet with 2000-year-old Intaglios

We could have never imagined how much history and exact data is concealed in this late 18th Century bracelet with chromium chalcedony intaglios dating back from between 100 BC and 100 AD, set in 14K bi-colour gold alternating with silver-encrusted old mine brilliant cut diamonds.

One interesting fact we already want to point out to you is that one intaglio is the same type as the one on Julius Caesar's own signet ring, inherited and worn by Augustus.

We invite you to click here for a journey back in time, but be warned: you have to appeal to your stamina.

Three little birds

"Three little birds"

Rised up this morning
Smiled with the rising sun
Three little birds
Each by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Sayin'...
This is my message to you
Singin' don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing's
Gonna be all right
Sayin' don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing's
Gonna be all right

Bob Marley, Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician, 1945-1981

Pumpkin Spice Storage Device from Paradise

Adin's award-winning marketing team came up with yet another mind-blowing idea: What better place to store your Pumpkin Spice than in this wonderful gold French powder box decorated with rubies and birds of paradise.

The brilliance of this marketing campaign is that you can use the storage device as a chic make-up powder box as soon as the Pumpkin Spice Season has ended.

Spice to entice

For what will be our most successful autumn action ever, we came up with the unique marketing strategy of adding Pumpkin Spice to our advertisements. Because "If it works well for Starbucks, then why shouldn't it work for Adin too?"

We expect all our jewellery to be sold out immediately because of this action, so better hurry and buy the piece of your dreams quickly!

Elkan's personal favourites

On a regular basis, we have introduced the members of the Adin team to you, our fellow jewellery aficionados. We showed how we all have our own story besides our common passion for vintage jewellery and for creating an unforgettable experience for our clients, but Adin’s founder—Elkan Wijnberg—is the true engine behind the team.

Elkan's story:

"From a natural enjoyment in making jewellery and specifically enamelling since my childhood years, I achieved my goldsmithing degree in Schoonhoven, the Netherlands, at the age of 20. This makes me realise that it has been exactly 40 years since I sold my first piece of jewellery at a flea market.

I remember it as if it were yesterday: I had my entire collection of silver trinkets with small needles pinned down onto my mother’s black tablecloth.

Without any family history in the jewellery business or any education in antique jewellery, I’ve invested my life in building my own knowledge base into the empire that I now call my Garden of Adin.

However, I feel that a self-made man is never finished and will always keep on learning, growing, and reinventing himself. Out of all the insecurities that my life as a businessman entails, one thing that I’ve found as a certainty is that my passion for antique jewellery will never fade.

Still, the true jewels that I gained throughout my journey, fuelled by passion, are the many fascinating acquaintances and established friendships. Therefore, my gratitude for your trust and ongoing support goes out to you all."

Endure, be strong and stay healthy!

Info on the jewellery Elkan is wearing: a Breitling watch, intaglio ring, and Art Deco clip.

Annual Gold Harvest in The Garden of Adin

Try to describe Adin in just two words...

Something like "Antique Jewellery", "Vintage Jewellery" or "Jewellery Expertise" would be very fitting. However, we aspire to be more than "just another antique jewellery dealer".When scrolling through our passed weekly heralds, it shows that Adin is "Fun", "Educational", "Games", "Team Spirit", "Service", "Museum Quality", "Colour", "Poetry", "Design", etc. But… this week, the horizons of our Garden of Adin expand literally to a land of honey, where we try to contribute to the balance of nature by nurturing up to no less than twelve bee hives while receiving their precious liquidgold in return. So… Adin is “Bees & Honey” also.

An's personal favourites

On a regular basis, we would like to introduce the members of the Adin team to our fellow jewellery aficionados and to highlight their favourite jewel from our collection. It's clear that we all share a passion for vintage jewellery and spare no efforts to put our clients first, but every one of us has their own story as well.

This week, we aim the spotlight on An Jonckers.

An's story:

"Ever since I was a child and everywhere I would go, I was on the lookout for shiny or transparent pebbles. By extension, I was drawn to jewellery and their emotional and historical value.

In 2015, after my master's study in jewellery design, I felt that I wasn’t done learning by far. Studying techniques of excellent craftsmanship and working with antique jewellery and gemstones were on my wish list. To this day, Adin still ticks all those boxes for me.

My interest in excellent craftsmanship is also reflected in my choice of jewellery today. The exquisite royal blue (presumably) enamel with a beautifully balanced composition of foil-set diamonds attached on top of the ring seems to pull me in and carry me all the way to float in a starry night sky.

In combination with 143 rose-cut diamonds coming to life in this airy tremblant flower brooch, I almost feel in another world."

Oh, the thrill!

Once in a while, we get to experience extraordinary levels of exhilaration and this week this unique necklace did just that. There’s no way in reality to describe what it brought about in the core of our being, so we have to refer to what we can only find in fiction and fantasy.

And yet, this week, thanks to this necklace, we got to impersonate the sense of adventure, culture, and knowledge of a character like Indiana Jones and the sense of fortune of a character like Aladdin the moment he discovered the cave of wonders.

You’ll know soon what we’re talking about: Go on, have a look!

Tania's personal favourites

On a regular basis, we would like to introduce the members of the Adin team to our fellow jewellery aficionados and to highlight their favourite jewel from our collection. It's clear that we all share a passion for vintage jewellery and spare no efforts to put our clients first, but every one of us has their own story as well.

This week, we aim the spotlight on Tania Van Assche.

Tania's story:

"In 1998, I started out at Adin as a shy little girl, not knowing anything about jewellery. Since then, I’ve been learning more every single day and blossomed into the woman I am today—yet still with a small stature.

At the office, I’m the go-to person when something needs to be sorted out, whether it involves the start of a new collaboration or Adin’s administration. However, the moments when a piece of myself really shines through are when I can stand by a client in need of any kind of help.

As for today, I chose to wear these long pendant pearl earrings together with this drop pearl necklace, with the emphasis on “pearl”. Pearls deserve the spotlight every day, as in my opinion they are highly underestimated and too often discarded as old-fashioned. Besides, they complement my warm skin tone perfectly and add that extra va-va-voom to my cosy office attire, don’t they?"

Roza's personal favourites

On a regular basis, we would like to introduce the members of the Adin team to our fellow jewellery aficionados and to highlight their favourite jewel from our collection. It's clear that we all share a passion for vintage jewellery and spare no efforts to put our clients first, but every one of us has their own story as well.

Kicking off will be Roza, the daughter of Adin's founder Elkan Wijnberg.

Roza's story:

"From the cradle throughout my childhood, Adin's boutique has been my playground. In this unique environment of glam and history nurtured by the trust of my father, I developed a keen eye for quality jewellery and a hand for jewellery craft through the years. For five years now, I'm officially part of the Adin team, advancing my expertise and jewellery insight every day while keeping my goldsmithing experience in mind.

As a young expert, I appreciate it when a jewel shows the highest quality of materials through the highest quality of craftsmanship while sharing several generations of history. With the substantial natural pearl, diamonds and vertically enameled bezels in top condition after over 150 years, this necklace ticks all the boxes. But, what actually really does it for me as a young woman, is the sophistication of the necklace. With its modest look and great comfort to wear, this antique piece of jewellery is very suitable for any age."

The Crayfish

"The Crayfish" is a ribald humorous folk song of the English oral tradition. It dates back to the seventeenth century. The moral of the story is that one should look in the chamber pot before using it. To protect the tender disposition of some of our readers from the somewhat obscene nature of the rhyme, we have decided to share only the first (innocent) strophe.

Fisherman, fisherman, standing by the sea
Have you got a crayfish that you can sell to me
By the way side high diddly aye do

In the Green Green Garden of Adin

It is said that when an emerald is gifted in an engagement ring, it will glow as green as spring for as long as the offered love burns.

I have been ready at your hand
To grant whatever thou would'st crave;
I have waged both life and land
Your love and goodwill for to have.

Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold,
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.

  • By an anonymous composer in England, but believed to be King Henry VIII himself for Queen Anne Boleyn

The Heavenly Garden of Adin

Back in the day when people believed in the literal power of words, they wore certain phrases or signs carved in their jewellery. In those times, they also thought that the planets in the sky were connected to certain precious metals and gems, allowing them to extract the energy of those celestial bodies by wearing these materials.

In the case of zircon, there is a link with Saturn. However, the blue variety is also influenced by Venus and the Sun. Therefore, a blue zircon is often used to protect against ancient evils, harmonise dreams and inner goals with reality, and purify dark thoughts.

Here at Adin, we know what it feels like when a jewel takes your head up in the clouds and makes you forget about your worries. This ring with blue zircon literally shows you the way up and turns everything clear as day.

The Garden of Adin on Fire!

Fire opal is thought to stimulate the reproductive organs and has always been associated with love and passion, as well as with desire and eroticism. It is a seductive stone that intensifies emotional states and releases inhibitions. Although such gemstone qualities make interesting conversation, we don’t necessarily believe such claims to be true, at least not specifically for one particular type of gemstone. In our experience, all jewellery pieces can have such an effect on people.

However, we would like to emphasise that buying any kind of jewel for any such reason is one's own responsibility: Adin cannot be held accountable if the obtained result is not as desired.
