Style
Art Deco - Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style which had its origins in Paris in the first decades of the 20th century. The style originated in the 1920s and continued to be employed until after World War II. The term "art deco" first saw wide use after an exhibition in 1966, referring to the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes that was the culmination of high-end style modern in Paris. Led by the best designers in the decorative arts such as fashion, and interior design, Art Deco affected all areas of design throughout the 1920s and 1930s, including architecture and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern.

Style specifics
Abstract motives and geometrical forms are quite typical for the Art Deco period. Art Deco moved away from the soft pastels and organic forms of its style predecessor, Art Nouveau, and embraced influences from many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative.

Style specifics
The Belle Époque (French for "Beautiful Era") was a period in European social history that began during the late 19th century from the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) and lasted until World War I (1914-18).

Occurring during the time of the French Third Republic and the German Empire, the "Belle Époque" was named in retrospect, when it began to be considered a "golden age" the major powers of Europe, new technologies improved lives and the commercial arts adapted Renaissance and eighteenth-century styles to modern forms.

In the newly rich United States, emerging from the Panic of 1873, the comparable epoch was dubbed the Gilded Age. In the United Kingdom, this epoch overlaps the end of what is called the Victorian Era there and the period named the Edwardian Era.

In the Belle Époque cheap coal and cheap labour contributed to the cult of the orchid and made possible the perfection of fruits grown under glass, as the apparatus of state dinners extended to the upper classes; champagne was perfected during the Belle Époque. Exotic feathers and furs were more prominently featured in fashion than ever before, as haute couture was invented in Paris, the centre of the Belle Époque, where fashion began to move in a yearly cycle; in Paris restaurants such as Maxim's achieved a new splendour and cachet as places for the rich to parade, and the Opéra Garnier devoted enormous spaces to staircases as similar show places.

After mid-century, railways linked all the major cities of Europe to spa towns like Biarritz and Deauville; their carriages were rigorously divided into first-class and second-class, but the super-rich now began to commission private railway coaches, as exclusivity was a hallmark of opulent luxury. Bohemian lifestyles gained a different glamour, pursued in the cabarets of Montmartre.

A vivid sapphire forms the body, with two small rubies picked out as eyes, and fine openwork gives the wings a light, floating look despite the sparkle. Victorian - Victorian decorative arts refers to the style of decorative arts during the Victorian era. The Victorian era is known for its eclectic revival and interpretation of historic styles and the introduction of cross-cultural influences from the middle east and Asia in furniture, fittings, and Interior decoration. Victorian design is widely viewed as having indulged in a regrettable excess of ornament. The Arts and Crafts movement, the aesthetic movement, Anglo-Japanese style, and Art Nouveau style have their beginnings in the late Victorian era.

Theme
Dragonflies in cultures - In Europe, dragonflies have often been seen as sinister. Some English vernacular names, such as "devil's darning needle" and "ear cutter", link them with evil or injury. A Romanian folk tale says that the dragonfly was once a horse possessed by the devil. Swedish folklore holds that the devil uses dragonflies to weigh people's souls. The Norwegian name for dragonflies is "Øyenstikker", which literally means eye-poker and in Portugal they are sometimes called "tira-olhos" (eye-snatcher).

They are often associated with snakes, as in the Welsh name gwas-y-neidr, "adder's servant". The Southern United States term "snake doctor" refers to a folk belief that dragonflies follow snakes around and stitch them back together if they are injured.

Images of dragonflies are common in Art Nouveau, especially in jewelry designs. They also appear in posters by modern artists such as Maeve Harris. They have also been used as a decorative motif on fabrics and home furnishings.

As a seasonal symbol in Japan, the dragonfly is associated with early and late summer and early autumn. More generally, in Japan dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness, and they often appear in art and literature, especially haiku. The love for dragonflies is reflected in the fact that there are traditional names for almost all of the 200 species of dragonflies found in and around Japan. (From: Wikipedia)

Product story

From the first glance it seems obvious that this frivolous red gold backed necklace fits just elegantly around the neck as a garland of six larger flowers alternating with six smaller ones. As three more flower pairs with dangling triplets drape from this blooming aura, an abundance of foil-set rose cut diamonds encrusted in silver shimmer illustriously.
However, there's more to this intriguing piece than meets the eye...

Every antique jewel exudes history, but on top of that this enchanting necklace from around 1850 has also a modern story to tell about what jewellery can symbolize for a family.

We were honoured to purchase this jewel from the heirs of a jeweller, who crafted this unique necklace out of his personal collection of four pairs of antique Flemish earrings. To find one complete pair of this type of earrings is incredibly rare, let alone having four pairs. Furthermore, all of his daughters were truly shining on each of their wedding days while wearing their father's creation.

Although it isn't a custom of ours to offer redesigned/remodelled pieces, the way this jewel came to be is uttermost charming: initiated by a passion for antique jewellery, fueled by the vision and craftsmanship of a jeweller and truly ignited by the love of a father.

Style specifics: The Romantic Victorian Period - Experts divide the reign of Queen Victoria, also called The Victorian era (1837 - 1901) in to three periods of about twenty years each; The Romantic Victorian Period (1837 - 1860), The Grand Victorian Period (1860 - 1880), and the Late or Aesthetic Victorian Period (1880 - 1901).

We consider this to be of the Romantic Victorian Period. This period covers the coronation of Victoria as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and her marriage to King Albert and their love, their devotion to their marriage and to their country are the sources of inspiration for this period. The jewels of this period are made of intricate carvings, special techniques where the enamel is subtly worked. These techniques allowed to give the jewel a certain opulence with less precious metal needed. As precious metals were really rare at that time. Highly favored (semi-) precious stones in this period are amethyst, coral, garnets, seed pearls and turquoises. The connotation is obviously sentimental, symbolic and romantic with reminiscent Gotic and/or Renaissance patterns and an abundant use of motifs like anchors, birds, branches, crosses, hearts and snakes.

Product story

Discover an extraordinary pair of rings - one an exquisite platinum Estate ring from the 1950s with Colombian emeralds and diamonds, the other a silver duplicate adorned with strass stones. In the past, elites had duplicates made for travel, but the reasons were often forgotten. This rarity, with its original and duplicate rings, is a testament to that tradition. The platinum ring features emeralds and diamonds, reminiscent of a Greek sanctuary, while the duplicate offers versatility. Both await you in Leysen's treasure box, offering timeless elegance and a touch of history.

At first, we thought we were seeing double but immediately we realised how exceptional this pair of rings really is. One jewel is a most valuable platinum Estate ring from the Fifties with high class Colombian emeralds and diamonds. The other seems to be the exact same ring crafted in perfect resemblance but in silver with green and colourless strass stones.

Up to the Fifties of the last century it was not uncommon for the happy few to have their most precious jewellery pieces reproduced in less expensive materials. These reproductions -called dummies- were crafted specifically to wear on long journeys and cruises. Unfortunately, this custom was so well kept in discretion that most people lost sight of the reason of having a duplicate. So nowadays, such pairs are hardly being found as a couple anymore which makes of this valuable ring together with its pseudo-twin truly a unique collection.

Within this particular pair, the spectacular original platinum ring arrays three centrally decreasing emeralds with an upper and lower brim of five brilliant cut diamonds. This plateau of gems transcends from a left and right diamond-encrusted volute. Central in the two capital rims of this stylized column shaped top, a brilliant cut diamond enhances the allure of wearing a Greek sanctuary on your hand even more. As a Greek goddess, you could bath in this sea of diamond shimmer created by the light swirling through the azure-cut settings.

The authentic ring as well as its duplicated counterpart equal in appearance are just waiting to be found in the original treasure box of Leysen, who's a certified jewellery supplier to the Belgian Royal Court. Having the opportunity to wear this powerful design on any possible occasion, envision yourself completely giving in to the moment without giving in on any of your own unique glory.

Product details

Antique jewelry object group: Ring in most precious materials and a duplicate -also called "dummy"- ring.

Condition: excellent condition
  -  (more info on our condition scale)

Country of origin: Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of Belgian origin.

Style: Although most people would call this style Art Deco it is more considered to be a product of the fifties of the Twentieth Century. Strongly influenced by Art Deco but also by the Retro style. That to most people this is Art Deco is no coincidence as both Retro style and Fifties style are the style successors of Art Deco. or more info on styles

Style specifics: This type of jewelry is very specific for the fifties of the twentieth century. The Art Deco period preceded only 20 years and was still used as source of inspiration, it is (even for the trained eye) sometimes very hard to note the difference between Art Deco and Fifties.

Period: ca. 1950
  -  (events & facts of this era, poetry of this era, fashion of this era)

Material: Original piece in platinum and dummy piece in silver.
  -  (more info on precious metals)

Extra information: The custom of wearing a replica or "dummy" instead of the authentic jewel comes from the desire of the elite to take their glamorous trinkets along their extensive travels. Thanks to the imitation pieces, they could leave the originals safely in their vault. So without anyone realising the clever switch between the true jewel and the reproduction, it had become possible for them to simply enjoy their favourite and personal belongings anywhere.

Imagine the chance to enjoy a stride gracefully along a fashionable promenade, to be swept away by a sea breeze on the deck of a cruise ship, to be fully engaged in a soirée conversation, to have your eyes stuck only on a stunning foreign view, but how easy it is to loose any trinket on such events -dummy or not. So after all this time still being able to present the authentic ring together with the ring that's afforded to be lost, that can only be a miracle.

Although the terms "dummy" and "copy" are no flattering words for any meticulously crafted jewel, make no mistake: it's only the original ring's counterpart that embodies the most precious adventures of its owner.

Description of stones in platinum ring:
36 old European cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 1.50ct. (colour and clarity: F/G, vs/si). And three emeralds (most probably Colombian) with a total weight of approximately 1.10 crt (1 ± 0.70 and 2 ± 0.20 each)
- weights of emeralds and diamonds, color grades and clarity are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.

Description of stones in dummy ring:
Three green and 36 colourless strass stones (also called paste) as diamond and emerald imitation.

Product story

This captivating Art Deco cigarette case, crafted in France in 1928, may hold a mysterious connection between General MacArthur and Charles Lindbergh. The inscription inside, "To Violet from Major McArthur 3-12-1929," sparks intrigue. The possible link between Major MacArthur and the famous aviator Lindbergh, combined with the timeline of significant events—including Lindbergh's transatlantic flight and the tragic Lindbergh baby abduction—adds an air of suspense.

Product details

Is this the missing link between two major figures of the early 20th century who dominated the headlines?

General MacArthur and Charles Lindbergh

The thrill of dealing in antique and vintage jewellery continues to astound us, even after more than four decades. The thought often crosses our minds: "If only our collection could speak… " Yet, we must remember that our jewellery pieces do communicate in their own unique way. It’s one of the many joys of our work to uncover their past lives by chasing down facts, often treading the line between history and imagination.

This exquisite vanity or cigarette case, embellished with mother-of-pearl, gold, gilded silver, and Japanese lacquer, tells us through its hallmarks that it was manufactured in France from 18K gold and gilded silver, and imported into London in 1928.

However, it speaks even more profoundly through the engraving inside: "To Violet from Major McArthur 3-12-1929." Naturally, the question arises: "Who are Violet and Major McArthur?" Thus began our quest for answers.

First and foremost, the most famous Major MacArthur is the World War I hero, Douglas MacArthur. Could he be the man who gifted this case to Violet? Violet, on the other hand, appears far more elusive. However, there is one notable connection between a certain Violet Sharp and Major MacArthur: the famous Charles Lindbergh. We have outlined the key dates below, allowing you to draw your own conclusions. To us, this case could be a relic of an interwar romance—or even a forbidden love. Either way, it seems impossible according to the facts listed below.

Is each moment in this timeline a mere coincidence, or too much of a coincidence to dismiss?

Timeline:

  • 1922: MacArthur marries Louise Cromwell Brooks in New York.
  • 1922-1930: MacArthur is sent to the Philippines under General John J. Pershing's command, following a negative evaluation—rumoured to be influenced by Pershing’s interest in MacArthur's wife, according to Mrs. MacArthur.
  • 1925: MacArthur is promoted to Major.
  • 1927: Lindbergh successfully completes the first solo transatlantic flight from New York to Paris.
  • 1927: Lindbergh is awarded the Medal of Honour for his transatlantic flight.
  • 1927: MacArthur receives the Medal of Honour for his actions during WWI, originally intended for Lindbergh.
  • 1927-1928: The case is imported into London.
  • 28/07/1928 - 12/08/1928: MacArthur represents the US at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam.
  • 18/06/1929: MacArthur divorces Louise Cromwell Brooks.
  • 03/12/1929: MacArthur gifts the case to Violet.
  • Pre-1930: Violet is married and living in London until her divorce.
  • 22/06/1930: Lindbergh's first son is born, and Violet is appointed as a household maid for the Lindbergh family in Morris County, New Jersey (approximately 100km from West Point, New York).
  • 01/03/1932: Lindbergh's son is abducted. Violet becomes a prime suspect due to her inability or refusal to provide an alibi.
  • 10/06/1932: Violet commits suicide.
  • 1930-1935: MacArthur is appointed Chief of Staff of the United States Army, likely stationed at West Point, New York.
  • 1935: MacArthur meets Jean Faircloth during his journey to the Philippines for a new mission.
  • 1944: Lindbergh and MacArthur collaborate on a WWII mission.

For further information, we refer you to Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express" (filmed in 1974 and remade in 2017), which was inspired by the abduction of Charles Lindbergh Jr.

This is exactly what we cherish about our work—the thrill of historical research that opens unexpected windows into the past.

Style: Art Deco - Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style that originated in Paris in the first decades of the 20th century. The style emerged in the 1920s and continued to influence design well into the post-World War II period. The term "Art Deco" became widely recognised after a 1966 exhibition, referencing the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. Led by top designers in the decorative arts, including fashion and interior design, Art Deco influenced all areas of design throughout the 1920s and 1930s, including architecture, industrial design, and the visual arts. At the time, the style was considered elegant, glamorous, functional, and modern.
  -  See also: Art Deco or more info on styles

Style specifics: Abstract motifs and geometric forms are typical of the Art Deco period. Art Deco moved away from the soft pastels and organic forms of its predecessor, Art Nouveau, embracing influences from various early 20th-century styles and movements, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and remained strong in the United States throughout the 1930s. Unlike many design movements that have political or philosophical underpinnings, Art Deco was purely decorative.

Source of inspiration: Chinese garden

Theme: Chinese/Japanese lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay depicting a garden with a flower resembling a violet

Material: Gilded silver and 18K yellow gold cartouche on the top.

Technique: Lacquer or Japanning - Just as "china" is a common term for porcelain, "japanning" describes the European technique for imitating Asian lacquerware. As Asian lacquerwork gained popularity in Europe during the 17th century, European artisans developed their own techniques, applying several coats of varnish, each heat-dried and polished, to achieve a similar finish. The technique, which became known as japanning, gained widespread popularity in the 18th century. Originally used on pottery and wood, japanning later became popular as a coating for metalware. By the 20th century, the term was applied broadly to various varnishes and lacquers. (from Wikipedia)

Hand engraving: "To Violet from Major McArthur 3-12-1929"

Style specifics
This is something between Belle Époque and Art Deco.

Extra information
Diamond is the birthstone for the month of April, and besides being the most popular gemstone for engagement rings, it is also the anniversary gem for the 10th and 60th years of marriage.

Even though the diamond is the hardest of all gemstones known to man, it is the simplest in composition: it is common carbon. The ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were splinters of stars fallen to earth. It was even said by some that they were the tears of the Gods or perhaps crystallized lightning or hardened dew drops. The exact origin of diamonds remained something of a mystery for centuries.

In ancient times only kings wore diamonds as a symbol of strength, courage and invincibility. Over the centuries, the diamond acquired its unique status as the ultimate gift of love. It was said that Cupid's arrows were tipped with diamonds which have a magic that nothing else can ever quite equal.

But it wasn't until 1477, when Archduke Maximillian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy, that the tradition of diamond engagement rings began. Even the reason a woman wears it on the third finger of her left hand dates back to the early Egyptian belief that the vena amoris (vein of love) ran directly from the heart to the top of the third finger, left hand.

Extra information: Betrothal rings were used during Roman times, but weren't generally revived in the Western world until the 13th century. The first well-documented use of a diamond ring to signify engagement was by the Archduke Maximilian of Austria in imperial court of Vienna in 1477, upon his betrothal to Mary of Burgundy.

Before the 20th century, other types of betrothal gifts were common. Before the end of the 19th century, the bride-to-be frequently received a sewing thimble rather than a engagement ring. This practice was particularly common among religious groups that shunned jewelry. Engagement rings didn't become standard in the West until the end of the 19th century, and diamond rings didn't become common until the 1930s. Now, 80% of the women are offered a diamond ring to signify engagement. (from: Wikipedia)

Style
Victorian - Victorian decorative arts refers to the style of decorative arts during the Victorian era. The Victorian era is known for its eclectic revival and interpretation of historic styles and the introduction of cross-cultural influences from the middle east and Asia in furniture, fittings, and Interior decoration. Victorian design is widely viewed as having indulged in a regrettable excess of ornament. The Arts and Crafts movement, the aesthetic movement, Anglo-Japanese style, and Art Nouveau style have their beginnings in the late Victorian era.

Style specifics
The Grand Victorian Period - Experts divide the reign of Queen Victoria, also called The Victorian era (1837 - 1901) into three periods of about twenty years each; The Romantic Victorian Period (1837 - 1860), The Grand Victorian Period (1860 - 1880), and the Late or Aesthetic Victorian Period (1880 - 1901).

We consider this to be of the Grand Victorian Period.

This second Victorian period is famous for its ostentatious pieces set with pearls and diamonds (from South Africa). From ca. 1850 wealthy English had reported about jewelry from India and Japan, which heavily inspired the jewelers of this period. This period also corresponds with the death of Queen Victoria's husband King Albert making mourning jewelry (set with heavy dark stones) the type of jewelry specific for this period.

Style
Between Art Deco and Interbellum - Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style which had its origins in Paris in the first decades of the 20th century. The interwar period (1918–1939) is understood, within recent Western culture, to be the period between the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Second World War. This is also called the period between the wars or interbellum.

Style specifics
This is something between Art Deco and the Interbellum.

The Interbellum is the period between the two World Wars and one can recognize a transition from the Art Deco style to the Retro style.

Extra information: Diamond is the birthstone for the month of April, and besides being the most popular gemstone for engagement rings, it is also the anniversary gem for the 10th and 60th years of marriage.

Diamond(s): Five baguette (long rectangular) cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 1.00ct.
Ten brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 0.42ct.
Six single brilliant cut diamonds (also called 8/8) with an estimated weight of ± 0.06ct.

Product story

Allow us to guide you through the captivating charm of this striking jewel. At first sight, its design unmistakably aligns with the 1970s ethos. However, contrary to the era's norm of predominantly colourless diamonds with perhaps a singular fancy coloured accent, this piece is a vibrant ensemble of fancy diamonds.

Such a harmonious fusion of staying true to the era's fashion, whilst innovatively selecting coloured diamonds, speaks volumes about artistic flair and sophistication. It's not merely a design choice; it's a bold statement of style and individuality.

The jewel's colour palette is strikingly similar to the fresh collections of Victoire de Castellane for Dior. Yet, within this piece, one can discern the underlying muse for today's modern elegance.

Extra information on the quality of the diamonds
and their gemmological reports:

In general, we prefer to avoid taking gemstones out of a jewel to maximally preserve the authenticity of the piece. Usually, a quality estimation through preservation is regarding antique and vintage jewellery more valuable than exact information. However in this case with fancy coloured diamonds, there's even more value in exact information, so we've tried to keep a reasonable balance in our choice to test these diamonds by only taking out nine diamonds for certification as the representatives for the entire lot. You can inspect the lab results from IGI (International Gemological Institute) in the section of photos, but here we'll highlight the most important aspects regarding fancy diamonds.
Concerning their colour grades:
All diamonds in this brooch are natural diamonds and their colour origins from an extra treatment. Since the 1950's, the fancy colours of diamonds have been created by heat treatment and/or irradiation. The diamonds on the market that have been irradiated are not radio-active, so don't pose any danger.
Besides that, not all colours of a diamond fall in the category of "fancy coloured". Only diamonds of which their colour is intens enough are permitted to be called "fancy". That is the case with all of the diamonds in this brooch.
Concerning their clarity grades:
Not only do these diamonds have a high colour grade, also their clarity is quite good, generally ranging between VS and VVS. This is a rare sight for diamonds that have been treated for their colour as this is usually done with diamonds in lower clarity grades to upgrade them through colour treatments. Therefore, one would expect low clarity grades for colour treated diamonds.
These facts only make this brooch even more unique.

Diamond(s):
Three brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 1.58ct.
24 brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 3.45ct.
48 marquise (or navette) cut with an estimated weight of ± 14.24ct.

Total diamond count: 75 pcs.

Total diamond weight: (without rose cuts) approx. 19.27 crt.

- All diamonds we offer are screened by www.ijgc-worldwide.com for whether they are natural or synthetic, and all diamonds in this jewel are 100% guaranteed to be natural.

Style
Rococo - Rococo (less commonly roccoco) also referred to as "Late Baroque" is an 18th century style which developed as Baroque artists gave up their symmetry and became increasingly more ornate, florid, and playful. Rococo rooms were designed as total works of art with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, ornamental mirrors, and tapestry complementing architecture, reliefs, and wall paintings. It was largely supplanted by the Neoclassic style. In 1835 the Dictionary of the French Academy stated that the word Rococo "usually covers the kind of ornament, style and design associated with Louis XV's reign and the beginning of that of Louis XVI". It includes therefore, all types of art produced around the middle of the 18th century in France.

The Romantic Victorian Period - Experts divide the reign of Queen Victoria, also called The Victorian era (1837 - 1901) in to three periods of about twenty years each; The Romantic Victorian Period (1837 - 1860), The Grand Victorian Period (1860 - 1880), and the Late or Aesthetic Victorian Period (1880 - 1901).

Style
Edwardian - The Edwardian era or Edwardian period in the United Kingdom is the period covering the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910. The death of Queen Victoria in January 1901 and the succession of her son, Edward, marked the start of a new century and the end of the Victorian era. While Victoria had shunned society, Edward was the leader of a fashionable elite which set a style influenced by the art and fashions of continental Europe—perhaps because of the King's fondness for travel. The era was marked by significant shifts in politics as sections of society which had been largely excluded from wielding power in the past, such as common labourers and women, became increasingly politicised.

Product story

This ca. 1700 Baroque pendant is a remarkable testament to the craftsmanship of its time, distinguished by a rarely seen ciselé embellishment at its heart—a feature unique in our extensive experience with historical jewels. Crafted from 18K yellow gold, the pendant showcases a symbolic cross motif, enriched with six natural rose cut diamonds. Style specifics
Baroque is a style in art and decoration that developed shortly before 1600 and remained current in Europe until the emergence of the Rococo style c.1730. It was started in Italy, and spread to Germany, Austria, the Low Countries, and Spain and Portugal, with only a somewhat severely classical version being popular in France under Louis XIV. The style was a development of the Renaissance style and is characterized by lively, curved, and exuberant forms, by vigorous movement, and by rich ornament, based on classical sources, being symmetrical as distinguished from the asymmetry of the following Rococo style.

Style: Art Deco - Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style which had its origins in Paris in the first decades of the 20th century.
  -  See also: Art Deco or more info on styles

Style specifics: Abstract motives and geometrical forms are quite typical for the Art Deco period.

Product story

A splendid embodiment of vintage glamour, this Fifties engagement ring, circa 1950, is believed to be of Belgian origin. Fashioned in platinum, it features a resplendent old European cut diamond, complemented by seven brilliant cut diamonds, culminating in an approximate total carat weight of 1.32. Historically, diamonds symbolised strength, courage, and invincibility, evolving into emblems of love, as evidenced in the tradition initiated by Archduke Maximillian in 1477. This ring captures the essence of that heritage, presenting a timeless testament to love and commitment.

Extra information: Diamond is the birthstone for the month of April, and besides being the most popular gemstone for engagement rings, it is also the anniversary gem for the 10th and 60th years of marriage.

Diamond(s): One old European cut diamond with an estimated weight of ± 0.62ct. (colour and clarity: K/M, i).
Seven brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 0.70ct. (colour and clarity: F/H, si/i).

Total diamond count: Eight pcs.
